Akamai Workshop

Name
Workshop: Dismantling the Modern Attack from Infection to Impact

Location
Hall 9

Description

We hear it all the time. Everything from talent shortages to ageing or outdated infrastructure increases the probability that a cyberattack will succeed. A recent IDC study shows that almost half of the Public Sector Organisations in Europe have encountered a ransomware attack in the last year (IDC InfoBrief, “Next Generation Trusted Public Services”, sponsored by Akamai, Jan 2024).

Ransomware attacks continue to evolve as threat actors refine their tactics to infiltrate systems, encrypt files, exfiltrate data, and demand ransom payments. In this workshop, we will examine the latest ransomware attack trends gleaned from our global view of the internet.

Understanding the nuances of these attacks is crucial for organisations to bolster their defence strategies. Ransomware poses a significant risk, with perpetrators motivated by financial gain and the disruption of critical assets, particularly impacting public sector organisations.

Attackers often begin by compromising non-critical assets that might have less visibility and less protection, before navigating the network and targeting more high-value data, employing sophisticated techniques to evade detection

Through a solid understanding of ransomware tactics and procedures, organisations can enhance their defence mechanisms and effectively safeguard citizen data and applications.
