Chris was part of the team launching the UK’s first mobile internet service in 1999, the first 4G in 2012, and the first 5G in 2019. He’s helped EE to win the “Best Network” award from RootMetrics and Umlaut every year since 2013.
Now part of BT, Chris follows industry evolution of protocols that can affect customers significantly. The rise of end-to-end near-perfect encryption delivers obvious privacy benefits but can expose customers to attack, make the network slower or more expensive. Deployment models and architectures are central to these impacts.
Through engagement at the IETF and with other stakeholders he hopes to enable an ecosystem where networks can offer the best of all worlds: efficient, private and secure services, simultaneously.
